Trisha
Trisha is a Splash Blue Ameraucana hen from Open Gate Poultry. She is absolutely stunning and lays a fair blue egg. She is most often found outside the coop with Loretta when it’s bed time! She is the lone survive of a violent attack on the flock in 2023. We are so grateful to have her show the newest chickens the ropes.
Merry
Merry is a Buff Orpington, and was our oldest chicken. She was the the most friendly by far, and was confident people would always have a treat for her.
Stormy
Stormy (seen here with a silver laced Wyandotte) is a Lavender Orpington, which is Alaina’s favorite color of chicken. She is not as friendly, but is a consistent layer.
Watson
Named for her cute beard, Watson is a barnyard mix of a chicken. She is friendlier than Stormy and is a consistent egg layer.
Molly and Lillian
Molly, named by our former neighbor, was a Barred Rock hen. We inherited her and Lillian when we bought our house. She is quite bossy. Lillian was a bit nicer to her fellow chickens. They were both consistent brown egg layers. One of them lives on in our current rooster,
Lil Roo
Little Roo was our flock’s rooster. He’s was beautiful easter egger, and was born around when the Hogwarts chicks were. His real name was Godric, to complete the Hogwarts houses, but we just call him Lil Roo. Alaina fell in love with roosters because of Lil Roo. He injured his foot and she nursed him back to health. After that, he was sweet as sugar and let her pick him up as much as she wanted!
Loretta
Loretta was a “Fibro Mera” hen from Open Gate Poultry, which is a project breed specific to that breeder. She laid a beautiful light green egg and was best friends with Trisha.
Helga
Helga was a Legbar mix that laid brown eggs with speckled bloom.
Rowena
Rowena was a barnyard mix, and a gamble! She turned out to be a hen, and hatched our first ever HnH chicks in 2021! Her ‘son’ is Littlest Roo.
Salazar
Sally was a Cream Legbar chicken with a unique mohawk. She laid blue eggs, and was named for her “mama hen’s” Hogwarts house.
Minnie Pearl
Pearl, as we called her, was a Mosaic hen from Open Gate Poultry in Westport, MA. She loves to jump the fence and was picked on often as a chick. You could tell Pearl and Goose apart by Goose’s darker tail feathers.
Littlest Roo
Littlest Roo was the only surviving chick from the HnH 2021 hatch. Rowena diligently brooded over ~10-12 eggs and Len (formerly Helena) was her lone surviving chick. Lessons were learned from that hatch and unfortunate outcome. You could tell who his daddy was, but we don’t know which hen is his biological mom.
Goose
Goose’s was also a Mosaic hen from Open Gate Poultry. Her best friend was Maverick, the Frizzle Easter Egger. Flighty and a rule breaker like Pearl, Goose was gorgeous and laid ivory eggs.
